Summer 2022 Updates

It’s been a busy few months here in Chicago! Since the beginning of the year we have seen restrictions be rolled back and Chicago is finally settling into normalcy in general. Chicago Percussion has continued to hold free, weekly percussion classes through our partnership with Center on Halsted. Classes have been going well, the youth are attending on a regular basis, and we are starting to look towards the Pride Parade on June 26!

To help fill out the ranks and support the youth members at Pride, we are expanding our classes to the entire community! Any interested percussionist or musical performers can now attend the Saturday Percussion classes in May. Throughout the month of June, we will hold more formal rehearsals to establish the Pride Drumline that will perform on June 26. Interested persons should fill out the registration form to be added to the roster and receive music, along with other updates.

June 18 we will be appearing at the Pride Fest Chicago! The members of the Center On Halsted Youth Program will perform in the Youth Pride Space. We will also hold a community bucket session, an introductory percussion clinic, and few individuals may perform as well! Our performances and clinics will be from 2-3 PM. We will also have an information booth that day from 12 - 6 PM in the Youth Pride Space to provide individual demonstrations, lessons, and share information on the Pride Drumline that will perform on June 26 at the Pride Parade!

June 25th will be Mass Drumline rehearsals for any seasoned veterans and out-of-towners. These rehearsals are a chance for us to integrate all of the performers into the ensemble and finalize musical selections. We ask you to attend 1 of the Mass Drumline rehearsals if you want to be part of this free community ensemble!

We are also excited to announce we will be further expanding our Programs later this summer. Through our fantastic partnership with Center On Halsted, we will be launching a hand drum / Latin percussion class and ensemble! This will be another community based ensemble and class offered at no cost. We expect this new program to launch in late July or early August.

We are also excited to announce we will be working with the Blind Service Organization this summer! The BSA provides summer youth programs and services to people who are blind and visually impaired in the Chicagoland area. We are excited to provide percussion programming to their youth!

As our programs expand and grow, so does our need for talented professionals who are passionate about providing exceptional experiences for the community. We are looking to expand our team on all levels. We are currently looking for local professionals to be part of our Board of Directors, along with our Administrative and Educational staff. All positions are volunteer based and interested parties in the City of Chicago and Greater Chicago Area will get primary consideration.
